Position: Sanitation Supervisor                                                  Reports to: Director of Manufacturing

The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading, developing, and continuously improving the facility sanitation program to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, regulatory, and operational standards. This role provides direct leadership to the sanitation team and works cross-functionally with Production, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Safety departments to ensure the facility consistently meets CFIA, HACCP, GMP, and internal sanitation requirements.
The Sanitation Supervisor maintains a strong floor presence and is accountable for sanitation execution across all production areas and shifts. This position plays a critical role in supporting food safety, operational efficiency, audit readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • You have a deep manufacturing background and a rock-solid understanding of Food Safety Principles, SQF/BRC standards, and federal regulations.

EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 3–5 years of sanitation leadership experience within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of CFIA regulations, HACCP, GMPs, allergen control, and food safety systems.
  • Experience leading teams in a fast-paced manufacturing or processing facility.
  • Working knowledge of sanitation chemicals, CIP/COP systems, environmental sanitation, and cleaning validation practices.
  • Experience supporting regulatory and third-party audits preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and production/manufacturing systems.

Detailed Description of Duties:
Food Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance
  • Lead and maintain the facility sanitation program in accordance with CFIA regulations, HACCP principles, GMPs, allergen control requirements, and company food safety standards.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) for all equipment, processing areas, and facility infrastructure.
  • Create, manage, and maintain the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) to ensure all sanitation activities are completed effectively and on time.
  • Conduct routine verification activities including pre-operational inspections, sanitation effectiveness checks, environmental monitoring support, and internal sanitation audits.
  • Ensure all sanitation documentation, records, corrective actions, and verification activities are completed accurately and maintained in audit-ready condition.
  • Support CFIA inspections, third-party audits, customer audits, and internal food safety audits.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to investigate sanitation-related deviations, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
  • Escalate food safety or sanitation risks immediately when product integrity or regulatory compliance may be impacted.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of chemical handling, sanitation chemistry, allergen control, and hygienic cleaning practices.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, coach, supervise, and develop sanitation team members and lead hands in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain accountability for team performance, attendance, productivity, safety, and compliance with company policies.
  • Conduct onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and disciplinary processes in accordance with company standards.
  • Develop and maintain the sanitation training matrix to ensure employees are fully trained and qualified for assigned responsibilities.
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and team-oriented work environment focused on safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate company updates, operational priorities, and departmental expectations effectively to the sanitation team.
Sanitation Operations & Floor Leadership
  • Maintain a strong daily floor presence to verify sanitation execution, monitor employee performance, and ensure adherence to sanitation procedures and food safety standards.
  • Coordinate sanitation activities to support production schedules, changeovers, preventative maintenance activities, and operational requirements.
  • Verify proper cleaning and sanitation of equipment, utensils, processing lines, and facility infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with Production, Maintenance, Warehouse, Quality Assurance, and Safety teams to resolve operational issues and improve plant performance.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with sanitation chemical suppliers and service representatives.
  • Manage sanitation inventory, chemical usage, sanitation tools, and departmental supplies.
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, labeling, and use of sanitation chemicals and equipment.
  • Support downtime reduction initiatives by improving sanitation efficiency and execution.
Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
  • Promote and enforce all workplace health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with PPE requirements, chemical safety procedures, WHMIS standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Participate in safety investigations, hazard assessments, corrective actions, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure sanitation activities are performed in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities related to sanitation effectiveness, labour efficiency, chemical consumption, water usage, and operational downtime.
  • Analyze sanitation performance data and develop action plans to improve results.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action initiatives related to food safety, sanitation, and operational performance.
  • Recommend process improvements, equipment modifications, and procedural enhancements to improve sanitation outcomes.


Salary -  $69,000 - $84,200
